Information technology is as old as the brain itself, if you think of your brain as an information program. As it is science, it even goes back to the first attempt to share and store data. And basically, what information technology is: communication and storage of information along with the ability to process and use the information stored.

Information technology is using computers and software to control information. In some companies, this is called information management (or MIS) or simply as an information service (or IS). The information technology department of a large company is responsible for storing information, protecting data, processing the methods, sending information as needed and later retrieving information as required. The benefits of IT benefits were in many different areas, such as allowing all companies to accomplish tasks that were done for a lower cost, it opened the opportunity to do things that were never tried before and also allowed companies to "rewrite" part of their business and make better strategic positions.
